JOB SUMMARY: The Boring Mill Operator (Over 100”) will set up and machine parts on Vertical Boring Mills with capacities over 100”. The Boring Mill Operator (over 100”) reports to the Machine Shop Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Receives prints or instruction from Supervisor.
2. Checks rough casting to the print to insure it will make a good part.
3. Set up all measuring equipment needed to machine parts to size.
4. Set up all hold down equipment, templates, tracer, tooling and castings required for the machining operation.
5. Machines castings to print with minimal supervision.
6. After parts are machined the operator inspects, measures and records it on check sheets.
7. Operators are required at times to finish all hardware installation and prepare parts for shipping.
8. Machine operators will be required to do other jobs in the department at or below their job grade.


GENERAL INFORMATION
The Boring Mill Operators position is not an entry level job and requires one year previous experience machining parts. Operators must be able to do general math without error. Operators must be familiar with tapes, micrometers, dial indicators, protractors and all other measuring equipment pertaining to the job. Operators must be able to read prints and machine parts to size from those prints. Operators must use a high degree of judgement, skill and accuracy in the operation of the shop equipment. Safe operation is necessary to avoid injury to one’s self or other employees. This is also necessary to prevent scrap parts or damage to equipment.
Operators in this job are often new and in training. They will be required to set up and run many of the simpler jobs after four to six weeks with a minimum of supervision.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year shop experience.
Skills: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair and maintenance. The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull and carry objects. The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs. Using hands and arms inhandling, installing, forming, positioning, and moving materials or in manipulating things such as handtools and hoist.
Requirements: Operator must work in a safe manner and must have a safe work record. Safety
must be the first and foremost concern as these machines are capable of great bodily harm.
