IowaWorks Job Fair at Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC)

Earlier this month, Travis Dye, Mark Hilts, Bharat Pavuluru, and Chris Ziegler of Besser Company Sioux City attended the IowaWorks Job Fair at Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC). During the event, our team met with the Robotics and Automation instructor of the college, Dave McDonald, to schedule a plant tour for his students while our Sioux City plant had the an A-48 Pipe machine running. Working to make this happen quickly, our Sioux City team hosted twenty-three WITCC Robotics and Automation students the following week. While onsite, the students were able to meet with several members of the Besser Team, ask questions about what we do, and receive a first-hand view of our orders in process on the shop floor. Mark Hilts, Besser Engineering Manager for Pipe and Precast, stated, “It was great to see so many young people interested in a career in automation technology as that is certainly the direction the concrete pipe industry is going. The timing of the tour was perfect as it allowed us to demonstrate the basic operation of our fully automatic A48 Concrete Pipe machine being built for Midstates Precast near Des Moines.” The intent of the hosting these students was to spark some interest with future engineering graduates about what we do at Besser and how they can join our team.
